This fall, Purdue embarked upon an initiative to internationalize its missions of Learning, Discovery, and Engagement. Working with the help of the American Council on Education (ACE), Purdue is working to implement the many global aspects of its strategic plan. A campus-wide taskforce has been established with representation from International Programs, the ten academic colleges, The Office of Research, Student Services, Business Services, Advancement, and the University Senate. It is the charge of this task force to determine Purdue’s level of internationalization and to assist the academic and research units in internationalizing their activities. Taskforce efforts are concentrating on inventorying and highlighting current international activities in the different corners of campus, and in assisting the colleges and units in adding global aspects to their own strategic plans. The outcome of this effort will be various programs that will assist in creating new synergies among Purdue’s missions and units, the goal of Purdue new strategic plan.
Dr. Andrew Gillespie, Associate Dean, International Programs & Dr. Brian Harley, Associate Dean, International Programs and Director, Programs for Study Abroad are both members of this taskforce.
W. R. Woodson, Provost notes "Purdue has long been recognized as an "international institution," with its large international student population, its growing numbers of students studying abroad, and the mix of international discovery and engagement activities....with the drafting of our new strategic plan, Purdue has committed itself to "setting the pace for a new interdisciplinary synergies that serve citizens worldwide."
